How to Winterize a Hot Tub

When summer ends and winter rears its ugly head, it’s time to winterize your hot tub. You can hire a pro to handle this task or you can do it yourself. Here’s a quick guide to show you how to winterize your hot tub this year:

  1. Turn off power. No negotiating on this one.
  2. Drain water out using a sump pump or unplugging the drain stopper. The sump pump works faster, but whatever you have is fine.
  3. Drain the air blower if your hot tub has one. First, turn off the heater, place the cover on the hot tub and turn on the power to run the blower for half a minute. Shut down the power.
  4. Remove the filters from the filter well and clean them with a special cleaner. Never store dirty filters – always start fresh for the next season!
