Pool Liner Replacement Due to Fading
One of the first things to look for when asking yourself “Is it time for a pool liner replacement” is fading.
Most good pool liners have built in UV protection and substances to help slow down fading and discoloration. But over time the sun’s UV rays along with chemicals can cause fading.
When this happens the liner is also losing plasticizers. These are the substances which keep the liner flexible.
If your liner is heavily faded it could mean that it has lost its plasticizers and is becoming hard and brittle. Therefore, fading and discoloration might indicate it is time for a pool liner replacement.
Pool Liner Replacement Due to Wrinkling
When your pool was brand new its liner fit like a glove. If it has started to wrinkle, it may be time for a pool liner replacement.
Wrinkling indicates your liner is stretched out. This might be because of age or it might be due to poor installation and/or lower quality materials.
Wrinkles can easily lead to rips in your pool liner. For that reason, wrinkling may be a sign that it is time for a replacement pool liner.
Pool Liner Replacement Due to Cracking/Tearing
Fading and wrinkling can often lead to rips or cracks in your pool’s liner. Some of these can simply be repaired with a patch kit if small enough.
However, some tears may be too large or continue to grow. This will cause water loss and ultimately it might damage your pool base.
Inspect your pool’s liner for any cracks or tears. They could be an indication that it is time for pool liner replacement.
At Central Jersey Pools we are more than happy to inspect any cracks or rips you might find to determine if a simple repair is needed or if a new liner needs to be installed.
Our at-home consultation is free, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Leaking
Some water loss is expected due to evaporation. However, if your pool losing more than 1 inch of water in less than 2 weeks it may be time for a pool liner replacement.
Sometimes a patch is all your liner needs, but a new liner may be needed if the patch is unsuccessful.
It is important to monitor your pool for leaks. Long term leaks may result in damage to your pool, erosion, or even a sinkhole.
